NEW ZEALAND CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS

You may be eligible for grant of New Zealand citizenship if you:

Intend if granted citizenship, to continue to reside in New Zealand
You must intend, if granted New Zealand citizenship, to continue to be ordinary resident in New Zealand. You must indicate this in the application form

You are able to understand and speak English 
You must have sufficient knowledge of the English language, and must be able to demonstrate that you can manage independently in everyday situations. You may be required to attend an English Language interview for the purpose of assessing your ability to meet the English language requirements.

Are of good character
You need to be of good character, and to determine that the Minister will consider the answers you have given on your application form, and also a complete background checks with New Zealand Police and other agencies will be done. Some people with previous criminal convictions in New Zealand may be able to conceal their criminal record under the Criminal Record act.

Understand the responsibilities  and privileges of New Zealand citizenship
Becoming a New Zealand citizen means you will undertake responsibilities and enjoy the same privileges of a person born in New Zealand.

The Responsibilities are: To obey and promote the laws of New Zealand, and not act in a way that is against the interests of New Zealand.

The Privileges are: Foreign travel and freedom to return to New Zealand on a New Zealand passport, full economic rights, Full access to education, regarding subsidized fees, scholarship and awards and financial assistance from overseas universities, and Access to international sport.

Are a permanent resident of New Zealand
T be eligible for a grant of New Zealand citizenship you must have permanent residence meaning that the Work force Group has allowed you to live in New Zealand permanently.

If you are under 16 during the processing of your New Zealand citizenship application and your parent{s} are New Zealand citizens or have applied  and are able to fulfill the requirements for a grant of New Zealand citizenship, you may not have to meet the ordinary residence requirement.
