FACTS ABOUT CANADA.

Thousands of immigrants keep going to Canada every year, as it is not only an exciting place but also a great challenge for new residents. Foreign workers temporarily come to Canada as there is a shortage of skilled workers. We would like to give you a few interesting facts about Canada.

For the first few weeks you may want to find a place to live so, at first it would be best to stay in a rented room or apartment. Or could also check the classified ads in the daily news paper under apartments or houses for rent.

Most cities in Canada have urban transportation like buses, street cars and trains and some cities have subways so, getting around the city would be quite easy. You can always board these systems y either paying with cash or sometimes tickets. If you pay in cash, then you need to have the exact amount of fare as the driver does not carry change. Once you get settled you can always buy a monthly pass to save money and subway tickets at the subway station. When using public transport it on first come, fist serve basis.

Canada’s currency is the dollar. The most common are $5, $10, $20 and 50. Canadian currency also includes penny, nickel, dime, quarter.
There are chances when you get to Canada you will have some money with you. Incase, you don’t you can always exchange a small amount of your native currency with some Canadian money.

In Canada you would see the stores are set up a little differently, as you go for shopping for items like food and clothing. Most of the Canadian stores have cashiers and  shopping carts. Many of the stores are grouped together in large shopping malls so that you can do your shopping in one place. There are also large open-air markets where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables.

When moving around it is not necessary to carry your passport, Permanent Residence form or card with you, but it is important to have a couple of ID{identification}with you at all times e.g. a driver’s license, a  photocopy of your permanent resident papers or a Health insurance Card.
