FINDING JOB IN AUSTRALIA

In Australia everyone has the right to enjoy the Australian life-style, this includes the right to work, and earn wealth. The laws that are set by the government on working conditions are about the legal agreements that define the work relationship between employers and employee, which determines the amount paid to an employee, hours that are put in, and also conditions such as safety, leave, allowances, training and more. Since there is a strong support for work laws it makes the work place safe and productive so that both employers and employees earn rewards for their effort.

There are a number of factors that depend on your success for gaining employment, for e.g. where you plan to work, your skills, your qualifications, economic conditions, and the demand for employees.
Normally employers advertise for employees in many places, in news papers, private employment agencies, job sites and direct contact. They then choose whom they want from the people that respond to the advertisement.

If you’re from overseas and you want to work in Australia, you’ll either need to be accepted as an immigrant {or refugee}, or request temporary residency into Australia.
You are regarded as a permanent resident if you gain migrant or refugee status, and this gives you the same work rights as any Australian resident.
If you come as a temporary resident to work in Australia, it is important you obtain a visa that allows you the right to work.

You can obtain a visa if you qualify under Australia program for:

  • Temporary residence—that results in some benefit to Australia e.g. skilled employment, social/ cultural and international relations.
  • Students—full time study for registered course.
  • Business people—for visits up to 3 months.

For people who have skill in a particular occupation and need a job, the applicant must be over 18 and under 45 years of age, with good English ability and recent skilled work experience. They should also have skill and qualifications for an occupation listed on Australia’s Skilled Occupation List {SOL}. The visa options under this category will include skilled people applying as independent migrant as well as those sponsored by a relative, or a State/Territory government.

There are a number of visa options for business people, visiting Australia for business purposes, for example, to attend a conference or training session, to conduct business with an Australian organization. Also Business skilled visas for those who want to establish business in Australia manage a new or existing business or invest in Australia.

While working in Australia, either as a temporary resident or a migrant, you’ll need to find out your tax obligations for the income you earn, and that is used by the government for the common good of all living in Australia.
