Geography of UK

United Kingdom is officially called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is an island nation. London is the capital, and also the largest city in UK.

UK is comprised of:

  • The formerly separate realms of England and Scotland, and also Wales.
  • Northern Ireland
  • Numerous smaller islands
  • The UK is bordered by four seas:

  • To the south by the English Channel, which separates it from continental Europe

    The landscape of UK is very varied, ranging from the Grampian Mountains of Scotland to the Lowland fens of England. Scotland and Wales are the most mountainous part of UK, with ridge of hills, the Pennines also running down the centre of northern England. The coastal area of Wetlands of Somerset levels, regularly flood during rain.

    Being a small island, UK’sRivers is not very long. The longest river Severn is just 338 km in length, beginning in Wales. Another major river includes the Thames, which flow through Oxford and London.

    UK’s climate varies greatly according to season and location, but on the whole it is mild with few extremes. July and August are the warmest months in England. The best months to travel are May, June, September and October.

    The capital f England is London, built along the river Thames. Three quarters of the land in Britain is used for farming. Nine out of ten people live in towns and cities. More than two-thirds of people own their own homes, and the highest mountains are in Scotland and Wales.
