PERMANENT RESIDENCY IN CANADA

Obtaining a permanent residency in Canada is complex and time consuming. Around 200,000 people are allowed to enter Canada as permanent residents. They begin a new life in Canada by completing an application process, and once that is approved an individual receives a Permanent Resident Card and they can enjoy almost all the same rights as citizens of Canada, with the exception of voting privileges and unlimited stay outside Canada.

There are six categories that an individual can apply for Permanent Canadian Residency:

  • Skilled worker class Immigration.
  • Business class Immigration
  • Provincial Nomination
  • Family class Immigration
  • Quebec-selected Immigration
  • Adoption.

In the Skilled Worker Class Immigration applicants are evaluated based on language ability, age, work experience, education level arranged employment and adaptability. After evaluating each factor, the overall score determines whether the candidate is suitable for permanent resident status. The combined score is from 0 to 100 with a minimum qualifying level at 67.An individual’s Criminal history is also taken into account The Canadian Labor Market and other factors determine the outcome of the application

In the Business Class Immigration category there are investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed persons that qualify for permanent residence.
INVESTORS are required to demonstrate their legally obtained net worth of C$800,000 and to invest C$400,000 in Canadian economy. They also need to have business experience.
ENTREPRENEURS must have a net worth of C$300,000 and be willing to manage and operate a business and create one full-time job within three years of becoming a permanent resident.
SELF-EMPLOYED must have experience, intention and ability to establish a business and create employment opportunity for themselves or purchase and manage a farm.

For the Provincial Nomination process the individual needs to contact the representative immigration office  with the target province and apply for nomination after which they can apply for Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
For the Quebec-Selected Immigration, Quebec has a special agreement with the Federal government to select immigrants that best fit its immigration requirements.
